Your child will be participating at this stage if they were born in 2011 or 2010.

We're looking forward to getting another year of our Long-Term Player Development season underway! U7 & U8 players participate in one scheduled practice and one game per week. Game Leaders will facilitate the games under Ontario Soccer's Game Leader guidelines. Teams will also work with a volunteer coach on individual development and become familiar with the rules of the game.

This program aligns with Ontario Soccer’s FUNdamentals program. The sessions will be lead by Parent volunteers and supported with Skill Instructors under the leadership of the Technical Director. At this stage, coaches and teachers should create a stimulating learning environment where the atmosphere is “Freedom and Fun.”

All teams are scheduled to participate in a mid-season Festival and an end-of-season Festival Day in which they play their final game, receive a season memento and celebrate the season with games and activities provided by Byron Optimist Soccer Club and corporate partners.

Year of Birth Division  Play night  Time Slot  Fees before Mar 31  Fees after Mar 31
 2011  U7  Mon/Wed  7PM  $175  $200
 2012  U8  Mon/Wed  8PM  $175  $200

Regular season games will be playing 5v5 on quarter fields, predominantly; Hastings Park or Byron Fields.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The physical curriculum emphasizes the ABCs of movement: agility, balance, coordination, and speed, as well as running, jumping, twisting, kicking, throwing and catching. Technical instruction is introduced through movement exercises and games that promote a feel for the ball. This includes gaining ball control in receiving passes, dribbling, passing less than 25m, kicking the ball forward, and shooting on goal.

Keeping in mind that small children are naturally egocentric, basic tactical concepts involving basic cooperation between players can be introduced. Playing situations work best for teaching understanding of the game and building basic game intelligence and decision making.

Byron Optimist Soccer Club encourages children to continue to participate in a variety of additional activities. Swimming and well-structured gymnastics programs are recommended, along with ball sports
